Irada Organization Discusses Human Rights Violations and Recent Developments in Yemen with the UK Mission

Irada Organization against Torture and Enforced Disappearance held a meeting with a team from the Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom to the United Nations and other international organizations, at Building A of the Palais des Nations in Geneva, to discuss recent developments in the human rights, humanitarian, and security situation in Yemen.

Irada Organization provided a briefing on the recent Houthi military escalation in Taiz and Hodeidah, including the use of heavy weapons and the seizure of large parts of the coastline extending as far as Dhubab. These developments resulted in civilian casualties, widespread displacement and forced displacement, and damage to property. The briefing also addressed the targeting of internally displaced persons’ camps in Marib with ballistic missiles and drones, which resulted in the deaths of several children in Raghwan.

Irada Organization also handed Ms. Rhiannon of the UK Mission three human rights reports and an introductory brochure containing testimonies and data concerning arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, torture, forced displacement, child recruitment, landmine planting, the demolition of homes, and Houthi collaboration with terrorist groups.

Irada Organization against Torture and Enforced Disappearance further emphasized the continued Houthi violations against civilians and personnel working with international organizations and United Nations agencies, including arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearance, obstruction and looting of humanitarian aid. The Organization warned of the deteriorating conditions of detainees and the deaths of several individuals while in detention.

Irada Organization also documented serious violations in the areas of Al-Mokha, Hays, Al-Kadhah, and the coastal areas adjacent to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, including attacks against civilians, the destruction of facilities and property, and the forced displacement of residents. The Organization warned of the consequences of the Houthi escalation, which, according to Irada, is aimed at closing the Bab al-Mandab Strait to global trade and supply routes in service of Iran and for material gain, with serious repercussions for human security, food security, and regional and international stability.

Irada reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to monitor and document violations, preserve evidence, and prepare human rights and legal case files. It called for the release of detainees and abductees, disclosure of the fate and whereabouts of those subjected to enforced disappearance, an end to child recruitment, and guarantees of victims’ rights to truth, justice, and reparation.

Irada Organization stressed that any future peace process must place human rights and victims among its core priorities, alongside independent and impartial investigations, accountability for those responsible for violations, and guarantees against impunity.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Irada Organization reiterated its commitment to continuing its monitoring and documentation efforts, protecting the rights of victims, documenting violations in accordance with established human rights methodologies, and strengthening communication and cooperation with United Nations mechanisms, diplomatic missions, and international human rights organizations. These efforts aim to amplify the voices of victims, preserve evidence, support pathways toward accountability and justice, and combat impunity.
