Erada Organization Meets with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights – GenevaThe 63rd Session of the Human Rights Council

As part of its ongoing activities, the Erada Organization Against Torture and Enforced Disappearance held a meeting with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations Palace in the city of Geneva, in the context of discussing a number of human rights reports, one of which concerns detention centers and secret prisons, and the file of abductees, and the second concerns the grave violations committed by the Houthi terrorist militia in the districts of Taiz Governorate and Hudaydah Governorate during the recent events of the Houthi invasion of them, the scale of displacement and forced displacement, the crimes of field executions, and what the civilian population and travelers were subjected to in terms of intensive shelling with ballistic missiles, drones, and heavy artillery, as well as what the camps of displaced persons in Ragwan District in Marib were subjected to in terms of ballistic missile attacks that resulted in the killing of a number of children. The meeting also addressed the issue of abductees and the Houthis’ thwarting of the exchange process that was intended to take place last August.

The meeting also addressed the situation of United Nations employees abducted by the Houthi militia in Sana’a, foremost among them Dr. Ali Al-Mudhawahi, and the grave violations committed by the Houthi militia against them, and trials before the Specialized Criminal Court that lack legitimacy, as well as the torture and psychological destruction to which the abductees are subjected and the harsh conditions in which they live. Their only “crime” is that they work in humanitarian organizations that sought to provide a dignified life for those in need, but they did not submit to the terrorism of the Houthis, who were seizing aid through crooked means, and the refusal of humanitarian workers to pay levies to the Houthi thugs, which resulted in their abduction and many of them being subjected to torture and forced to make confessions of spying for Western countries, in a clear violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law.

The Erada Organization also reviewed, with the official of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Head of the Coordination Unit for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Mohammed Al-Nusour, the widespread campaign of arrests that took place in Mokha, Hays, and Al-Wazi’iyah.

The Erada Organization stressed the necessity for the United Nations and the international community to assume their legal and moral responsibilities toward the victims in the governorates of Hudaydah, Taiz, and Marib, and called for the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees, including United Nations employees, as well as all those arbitrarily detained and forcibly disappeared.
