International Day in Support of Victims of Torture
On the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the Eradah Organization for Combatting Torture and Enforced Disappearance stands to renew its pledge before the victims and their families, affirming that torture remains a crime against humanity that does not expire by statute of limitations, and that silence towards it is considered participation in it.
We at Eradah affirm that what the detainees are subjected to in the prisons of the terrorist Houthi militia is not merely individual violations or incidental incidents, but rather a systematic and deliberate policy, in which the militia uses torture as an oppressive tool to break the will of the free and to subjugate society.
These practices take place under high-level directives and are managed through an integrated system of prisons in which the minimum standards of international humanitarian law are absent.
The monitoring teams have documented the death of 456 detainees as a result of brutal and systematic torture inside the prisons and detention centers of the Houthi militia. The lives of these victims were extinguished under the weight of the Houthi machines of oppression and terrorism, through forms of cruel physical and psychological torture, deprivation of medical care, and degrading detention conditions.
Stemming from our role in uncovering the facts, the Eradah Organization announces that it is in the process of publishing a detailed human rights report within the next few days, which includes the disclosure of the locations of secret detention centers managed by the Houthi militia, with precise details regarding the nature of the torture practiced inside them, which places the international community before its legal and moral responsibilities towards these crimes.
On the occasion of this day, which we live constantly, we affirm that systematic torture makes the militia leaders and the executors of their orders criminally responsible, individually and collectively, for crimes against humanity.
We at the Eradah Organization reject any political settlements that leap over the blood of the victims, and we emphasize that justice is the only pillar for peace.
We also demand that the United Nations and the Human Rights Council open an independent international investigation into these systematic crimes committed by the Houthi militia, and work seriously to end the state of “impunity.”
The Eradah Organization will remain a resounding voice for the truth, continuing its work to advance the file of the victims in the face of the machine of oppression until everyone who was involved in torturing the sons of our people receives their just punishment.
