The meeting of the Chief of Eradah Org to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance with the working group on Forced Disappearance. Geneva, Switzerland
The Chief of Eradah Org to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance Shiekh Jamal Al mamari met in Geneva with Secretary of the Working Group on Forced Disappearance handing over 33 file about new cases of forced disappearance in Yemen during 2023, in addition to translated version of Eradah report for 2023. Al Mamari and the Working Group on Forced Disappearance reviewed the cases of disappearance during 2023 and the past years, the circumstances of forced disappearance, the secret places of detention, talking in details about the conditions of the abductees in jails and how the parties to conflict in Yemen deal with them, who deliberately deprived them of their rights to freedom, decent life, food and treatment. The dean of Yemeni abductees expressed his willingness to hand over the maps that located the sites of secret prisons where about 256 forcibly disappeared detained since Sep 2014 and April 2015, noting the bad conditions they live in, and the suffering of their families who were blackmailed by Houthis Militia’s supervisors who asked the families to pay a large amount of money in order to release their abducted relative but they always lie to them. Chief of Eradah Org added that Houthis supervisors deliberately destroy the psyche of the families of those forcibly disappeared in their secret detention centers, and This is what happened with kidnapper C. M . a . A and the kidnapped Y. s . A and the kidnapped A. i. A. And hundreds of similar cases, in addition to the sufferings of the abductees’ families that bear in their looking for their relatives such as the cost of travel, rent, high expenses, high prices, lack of salaries, and the Houthis’ indifference to their suffering and to international laws that criminalize enforced disappearance. At the end of the meeting, Chief of Eradah Org to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance agreed with the Working Group on forced disappearance team on a future plan of action and a direct means of communication to provide them with information about the violations of enforced disappearance in Yemen, and the need for working to know those who are forcibly disappeared and work to rescue them from secret detention centers.
