Irada Condemns Houthi Landmine Killing of Two Yemeni Civilians in Al-Jawf
Irada Organization Denounces the Killing of Two Young Yemeni Civilians in a Landmine Explosion in Al-Jawf, Holding the Houthi Militia Fully Accountable for Systematically Laying LandminesIrada Organization against Torture and Enforced Disappearance unequivocally condemns the heinous crime that claimed the lives of two young Yemeni civilians, Aseel Al-Faqih and Ali Muqbil Dukhan, on October 15, 2026.
The victims, natives of the Mubin District in Hajjah Governorate, were killed when a Houthi-planted landmine detonated beneath their vehicle along a desert transit route in the Al-Yatmah area, east of Al-Jawf Governorate, as they were returning home from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia via the Al-Wadiah border crossing.
According to verified accounts from local sources, the explosive device was anti-personnel/vehicle ordnance deliberately laid along a civilian transit path by the terrorist Houthi militia, resulting in the instantaneous death of both young men. This atrocity adds to the tragic record of civilian casualties resulting from the widespread deployment of landmines in Yemen.
Irada Organization emphasizes that the indiscriminate laying of landmines across civilian areas and vital transport corridors poses an imminent threat to human life, constitutes a flagrant violation of the right to life and security of person, and inflicts long-term, catastrophic humanitarian impacts on Yemeni families and communities.
In light of the extensive documentation compiled by Irada Organization regarding landmine deployment in populated zones and public roads, the Organization holds the terrorist Houthi militia fully responsible for these unlawful acts.
Irada demands an immediate investigation into the incident, the swift prosecution of the Houthi commanders and operatives responsible for deploying these devices, and concrete measures to ensure that perpetrators do not enjoy impunity.
Irada Organization calls for an independent, comprehensive international inquiry into the deaths of the two victims, the immediate cessation of landmine deployment, the prompt execution of mine clearance operations, the compulsory disclosure of all minefield maps, and full reparation and compensation for the victims’ families.
The Organization further urges the United Nations and the international community to escalate enforcement efforts to safeguard civilians and hold perpetrators of international human rights violations strictly accountable.
Irada Organization reiterates that landmines represent a persistent danger to civilian populations and extends its profound solidarity with the bereaved families, reiterating the imperative of upholding the fundamental right to life, eradicating the landmine menace, and bringing all culpable parties to justice.
