Irada Org Presents a Briefing to the Human Rights Council
Irada Organization against Torture and Enforced Disappearance presented a briefing to the Council during the discussion of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) under the agenda item on Technical Assistance and Capacity-Building in Yemen.
In its statement, the organization reaffirmed its firm commitment to contributing to capacity-building in a nation facing severe challenges and grave human rights violations, while Houthis’ militia continues to undermine the fundamental right to life, liberty and personal security.
The organization noted that Houthis’ militia has destroyed the foundations of humanity, confiscated public freedoms, abducted UN employees and fabricated false charges against them in an attempt to disrupt humanitarian and development programs, with the ultimate aim of starving and subjugating the Yemeni people.
Irada emphasized its aspiration to lead in the fields of human rights monitoring and documentation and to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations and other relevant international organizations through the organization of training courses, workshops and the development of mechanisms and programs that promote human rights in Yemen. The organization believes that these efforts will significantly contribute to supporting humanitarian and human rights causes and advancing sustainable development.
Irada also reaffirmed its strong commitment to monitoring and documenting perpetrators of serious human rights violations and to establishing a comprehensive and verified database of offenders, in cooperation with the Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture (YCVVT), in order to ensure accountability, justice for victims and the prevention of impunity.
The organization further stated that it had recently submitted dozens of documented cases of enforced disappearance to the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, as part of the commission’s established monitoring and documentation mechanism. This step, Irada explained, comes in support of the cause of the abducted and forcibly disappeared and reflects its ongoing efforts to ensure that the victims’ voices reach the relevant authorities to uncover their fate and achieve justice and freedom.Issued by:
