Eradah Organization Granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)Geneva – 31 July 2025
By the grace of Allah, Eradah Organization to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance is proud to officially announce that it has been granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), effective as of 2025. This decision was approved by the Council during its session held on 29 July 2025, based on the recommendation of the UN Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations.
_ This milestone marks a significant advancement in the human rights journey of organization, led by Sheikh Jamal Al-mamari, Dean of Yemeni Detainees and Prisoners, who is one of the most prominent survivors of brutal torture in Houthi prisons. The organization received official notification of the decision and made the announcement in the early hours of Thursday morning July 31.
_ On this occasion, Eradah Organization expresses its deepest gratitude and appreciation for the trust placed in it by ECOSOC in New York, affirms its continued commitment to defending detainees, prisoners, and victims of torture and human rights violations, and to diligently pursuing transitional justice and non-impunity of perpetrators.
_ The organization also highly commends the tireless efforts and pioneering role of its chief, Sheikh Jamal Al-mamari, who has worked relentlessly for years, starting from within Yemen and extending to the international stage, to bring the victims suffering to the attention of the global community and United Nations bodies. His efforts have been instrumental in achieving this international decision.
_ This Special Consultative Status will enable Eradah Organization to actively participate in the work of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as the Human Rights Council, the General Assembly, and other intergovernmental UN bodies. It also allows for engagement with the UN Secretariat.
_ Under this status, the organization is entitled to designate official representatives to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and its offices in Geneva and Vienna. It may participate in UN sessions, events and conferences, submit requests to hold side events at the Human Rights Council and benefit from various facilities provided to consultative-status organizations, including access to meeting rooms and other logistical support in accordance with UN protocols._
