Eradah Organization supports imposing SANCTIONS by US Treasury against Abdulkader Al-Murtada and his group in

Eradah Organization to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance appreciates the OFAC decision to designate the Houthi National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs (HNCPA) and its leader, Abdulqader Al-Murtadha,pursuant to E.O. 13818 for being foreign persons who are responsible for or complicit in, or have directly or indirectly engaged in, serious human rights abuse. Al-Murtadha was also designated for being a foreign person who is a leader or official of an entity, including any government entity, that has engaged in, or whose members have engaged in serious human rights abuse relating to the leader’s or official’s tenure. According to the United Nations (UN), HNCPA operates Houthi prisons in Yemen. At one prison known as the Exchange House in Sana’a “Sarif Prison”, prisoners are systematically subjected to torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment by the prison’s staff. Multiple reports indicate members of the prison’s management personally participate in crimes and engage in systematic psychological and physical cruelty against prisoners, including Al-Murtadha. As we herein highly appreciate the US Treasury decision, we hope such important decision translate into practical reality ensuring the prosecution of Abdulkader Al-Murtada and his offenders partners and such violations are not repeated.Issued by Eradah Organization to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance.Dec 10, 2024
