Chief of Eradah Organization to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance meets with the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, Geneva

The Chief of Eradah Organization to Combat Torture and Forced Disappearance Shiekh Jamal Al-mamari met in the Office of Human Rights Council at Geneva with Ms. Gabriella and her Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances to discuss the conditions of the forcibly disappeared and the psychological and living situations of their families. In the meeting Eradah Organization chief handed over to Ms. Gabriella a report consists of 52 papers about the abductees and enforced disappearance cases in Yemen carried out by Houthis militia and other parties to conflict during the period from 2023 to Sept 2024. The meeting also touched on the 600 cases of forcibly disappeared, primarily 200 documented cases, whose files handed over to the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances over several periods, in addition to discussing the ways to internationalize their cases in order to put pressure on Houthis militia to disclose the forcibly disappeared and release them and ensuring accountability of perpetrators. The dean of Yemeni abductees Sheikh Jamal Al-mamari indicated that for the first time since Sept 21, 2014, Eradah Organization and the Yemeni Center managed to create a database for the criminals and perpetrators.

The database is an important step in bringing the perpetrators to trail and ensuring that they won’t go unpunished. The meeting also touched on the secret jails and their GPS locations and the lately abduction campaign of Houthis militia, including UN organizations’ personnel and the arrest campaign Houthis militia carried out to suppress liberties in many Yemeni provinces, Sana’a, Ibb, Dhamar, Emran and other Houthis’ controlled areas. As Houthis arrested so many civilians who expressed their wish to celebrate the anniversary of Sept 26 revolution, in an attempt to end the manifestations of republican system and national identity and replacing it by the identity of the Iranian Shiite project,

The meeting also touched on the systematic cruel torture the abductees subjected to in Houthi’s jails. Al-mamari explained the conditions of some forcibly disappeared in the last years in Houthi’s jails, the secret detention places in which the UN organizations personnel detained and the suffering of the abductees who were deprived of their rights, prevented from families visits and communicate with their families along their abduction years.

Ms. Gabriella in her speech indicated that the last reports of Eradah were already adopted, commending the cooperation of Eradah Organization chief, promising that the reports of Eradah team won’t be neglected but they will be included in the international reports of the council. She added that her Working Group had asked Houthis militia to clarify the conditions of the forcibly disappeared included in Eradah Organization list, disclose their fate, and release them immediately.

The team expressed the sadness for the cruel torture the dean of Yemeni abductees, Eradah Organization chief experienced in Houthi’s prison. The team also explained the difficulties faced by the team in gathering information and addressing the parties. Ms. Gabriella at the end of the meeting elaborated the future prospects for cooperation within the difficult situations and the risks in yemen.
